It is what it is... (2008-05-03)

Considering the price and the number of songs you get, it's hard to complain too much. I didn't have high expectations so it's easy for me to say 'it is what it is'. It's Trent trying to be experimental. Some are intriguing many are bland and boring. If you're expecting songs with lots of energy turn around and find another album. If you want intriguing, experimental background music you'll be hard pressed to find better value than $9.99 or $12.99 whatever the cheapest records store is selling it at. This won't be an album you put in the CD player and keep running. It's something to put on when you feel like a bit of a challenge. That said if you want something experimental but more well crafted try Aphex Twin or Download.

I am a huge nails fan and I have to say that this was pretty boring. 36 tracks that could have been cut down to about 10 pretty cool backgrounds.Trent Reznor is very talented but I don't think that this is reflected in this body of work. This is not an album that I will be throughing on the car, at home chilling....to be honest I really don't know when you would listen to this. I bought it when it was first available and listened to it right away. I think i have tried to listen to it once since.Hopefully the next album is a little bit more entertaining.
Disappointing (2008-04-22)

not bad background music, but thats about as complimentary as I can get. repetative and boring. Was pretty disappointed considering I'm a pretty loyal NIN fan
Wonderfully Creative! (2008-04-16)

Wow! I have always though nine inch nails (Trent Reznor) were creative, but Ghosts ups the ante on creativity big time! All instrumental and all exciting, unique, and creative!
A New Direction (2008-03-26)

What can be said about nine inch nails' "Ghosts I-IV" asides genius? Trent Reznor has returned to form, a new form, with the release first online then later in physical CD form with the ghosts. An entirely instrumental and sonically captivating songs is like a road map of where nine inch nails was and is moving towards. Apparently, Trent Reznor wanted to do this kind of album for years, and with his new found freedom from record labels and what is expected in a traditional sense of recording music. Trent has gone with value and with something new, all the songs are different, ranging from hard, viceral industrial based to light and very airy music it is a sonic adventure, and an almost retrospective look at the evolution of nine inch nails. Even the distortion within the music done with purpose and has it's own place within the songs. This sort of heavy production and detail orientation is what Trent Reznor has become famous for when it comes to his music; however, unlike his other albums this one took only a few months instead of the requisite 3-5 years, but it is done with only the genius that is Reznor. Also, he is making music for himself, his art and his true fans, and not the posers who claim to be loyal fans, but never grew passed the downward spiral. For Trent Reznor, music is still art and expression of himself and how he evolves as an artist, like it or not he will still be releasing the music that he wants to release. Any truly loyal fan of nine inch nails can see that with this album and with "The Slip" Reznor is building up to something amazing that will change the landscape of music much like a lot of his earlier work did for Industrial and Alternative musical genres.I would've loved, however, to hear lyrics to these great songs, but these songs stand well alone and indicate a great departure from the traditional nine inch nails, should we expect anything less from Trent Reznor?
