I usually buy my CD albums at HMV and I always listen to them BEFORE I buy it ... so I was interested in Erykah's new album but to be honest, I got turned off from buying it .... most of the songs was boring to me the only exception I could think of was HONEY ... to be honest I think this album is the worst so far .... and this is coming from a music lover who has all her albums.

ERYKAH is one of my favorite all time artists...but this album..what the what? i dont get it...its way too out there for me. I have ALL of her stuff and i've loved it all since ON&ON dropped way back when, but i really cant relate to this new material. Her last effort WORLDWIDE UNDERGROUND was genius on every level.I am very dissappointed in this release only because I am such a huge fan..maybe part 2 will drop and make it all better?ps. i'm giving this 2 stars only bcuz HONEY is a decent track unlike anyother song on the album.
Languid and soulful. (2008-03-01)

Eight years have passed since her last full-length album and 11 since her ground-breaking debut, "Baduizm".A decade is a long time in hip-hop fashions and while neo-soul curdled into clichéd mood muzak for hip hotel bars, Badu seemed more interested in bringing up her children and launching an acting career. Now, however, she has caught a second musical wind blowing in from the digital world. With MP3 tracks flying in from a multitude of producers, "Part 1: 4th World War " is the first part of a planned trilogy, and itself weighs in at over an hour. Badu has a lot to say on everything from the American dream to drug addiction. On the stand-out track, a hallicinatory mantra called "The Healer", she declares that "hip-hop is bigger than religion".Heavy going, though, this is not.Badu seems to have let her hair down, and her humour stops her sounding too preachy. She keeps the tempo slow but lets her gorgeous voice swim over strange, shimmering rhythms that turn mid-flow from dope beats to Seventies soul-jazz. The ghosts of Funkadelic, Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder play in the background as Badu's languid, mesmerising voice transports you to an entirely different level.
