It's not a blockbuster album - it's just ok (2008-07-29)

In track 1, the "Intro", she talks about the various experiences she has had and is saying that she is declaring herself. That she is, the declaration.2. The Way That I Love You - I like this song a lot and she sounds really good on it. It's about being cheated on.3. You're gonna miss - On this song she is a woman scorned and is telling the guy he's going to miss her. I don't like the beat of this song nor the song itself.4. So Over You - This song is decent and has a better beat than track 3. She is telling some guy that she is finished with "it" and over him.5.Struggle - In this song she rap-sings at a fast pace. It sounds good but the song is just dry. She says she will keep trying over and over to save the relationship. 6. Girlfriend - I like this song. In this song she tells some guy that if she was his girlfriend she would let him touch everything that she is and other innuendo. The premise is similar to If by Janet Jackson.7. Things You Make Me Do - This is another innuendo song where she is telling the guy how she needs him so much. She is very breathy on this song. I guess it's an attempt to sound sexy. She also states she'd take him shopping and buy him jewellery. Talk about a role reversal. :)8. In These Streets - I like this one. It's just her proclaiming that there is no one else for her but the guy. 9. Good Good - I like this one. Basically she said that her man doesn't stray because she has the goods at home.10. Body On Me - This one is featuring Nelly and Akon. I like the beat and the song actually. It's about hooking up basically but it's catchy.11. Mother - This is a song dedicated to her mother. It's a very nice song but it doesn't fit in with the rest of the album. It sticks out like a sore thumb actually.12. Shine - This song is about "haters" that try to bring others down with their negativity. It's about overcoming them and resisting their negative attacks. She also has a choir of kids singing along with her. It's a very positive and inspirational song but like #11 it's not really fitting in with all the relationship songs. 13. The Declaration/Outro - In this one she sings that she is still here and she's not going anywhere. She is telling off some guy as well. I like the beat of this.So overall I liked #2, #6, #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13 excluding the intro so that's 8 out of 12 i.e. 67% which is a decent percentage. It's not a blockbuster album. It's just OK.
