She may be bald, and her parenting skills may be more backwoods than the celebrity-obsessed would prefer, but when it comes to her profession (singing pop songs, for those who have forgotten) you've got to give Brit a break. Not because her previous records have been flawless--for all its first-listen appeal, Oops! I Did It Again will drive even the most tolerant pop fiend bats after two repeats, and it's hard for long-term fans to overlook the unfortunate "I Love Rock N Roll" off 2001's Britney--but because, despite all the personal tumult, she's feeling the music like never before. Blackout is not a brilliant record for its vocals, though they're good in the cooing, sex-kittenish way we've come to expect (check first single "Gimme More," a monstrously catchy dance-pop number, for the requisite moans and sighs). But it is brilliant. And though the Neptunes, Bloodshy & Avant, and Nate "Danja" Hills do their trippy, thumpy, raved-up thing successfully enough to make you think so, the brilliance isn't in the production only. The crackling "Radar" gets under your skin not just because of its club-ready beat, a familiar element on this disc, but also from Britney's deliberate vocal haze; here she is interpreting how she ought to sound against the heat of this track, and pretty skillfully--she goes for pure vibe, and she gets it. And while the words to the seemingly autobiographical "Piece of Me" are enough to pull you in themselves--here we get to hear Britney refer to herself as "Miss Bad Media Karma"--they get a little something extra from our girl's newly awakened sense of what makes a song flow; she has the good sense to squeal. Is she a credible role model? Certainly not. Is her music worth hitting, as the old song goes, one more time? Absolutely. --Tammy La Gorce

Britney Is Unstoppable! (2008-03-18) If one thing is certain is that Britney Spears is unstoppable, unpredictable, and definitely music savvy at a time in her life when things seem to be black. Yet despite the blackout she manages to hold her head up high producing a smashing sensational production! Every single track is great with no fillers, no boring slow styles, or her past teenage pop sound. This is a grown up Britney that will most definitely appeal to all ages. The tigress got out of the cage and the "true" diva has now stepped out to show the world of fans, critics, and on-goers nothing can bring her down! The single status suits her much better! HEAVEN ON EARTH is one of my top favorites for the totally mind blowing dance/electronica sounds with deep heavy "aggressive" attack vocals that change on ways not imaginable even whispering, "Your breath, your face, your hands, your tongue" describing how she falls hard for someone. GET NAKED (I Got A Plan) is a catchy, addictive, and club friendly song as the music spirals in electronica with a sexy guy totally hot sounding singing in the background sounding like nights at the club as you glance at the most outrageous person you'd like to escape with although quite naughty and dangerous. Other Stand-out tracks and favorites like Gimme More, Piece Of Me, and Freakshow are quite good thus reinforcing a truly outstanding release totally mind blowing, unimagined, and plain hot as ice! She may be giving freak shows, she may be breaking the ice too much or getting naked but she knows people want a piece of her! As for love, she doesn't settle for a toy soldier as she needs a perfect lover to say ooh ooh baby, after all why should she be sad if she can feel like heaven on earth? Everybody get back the dance moods from the 80's, the new era, and you'll be singing gimme more over and over!
BLACKOUT!!!! Best dance & pop album of 2008 (2008-01-19) The rythme is really good. No ballad except one at the end. It should makes many hit songs. I think this is the best music Britney ever did!
wonderful britney (2007-12-27) A much more mature sounding Brit, than ever before! Entire album is salvageable!Rise from the ashes girl, rise!!!
get moving for the new year (2007-12-03) A great CD for getting you to move, whether it's for working out, cleaning, or your morning pick-me-up. It's exactly what you expect from britney. Even if you're not a fan u can enjoy this one.
Love this album (2007-11-29) Put all the personal hype aside, this album is really amazing. It is not just a couple of songs, but the whole album is catchy, fun and has great dance appeal. I was really presently suprised by Britney's maturity and vocals. Give credit where credit is due - worth buyng.
