Icelandic Wonder (2008-02-21) I have been a big fan of Sigur Ros since the earliest days of the band when I was forwarded a copy of Von. I have bought most of their albums and EP's since then. Heima the movie is a treat for any Sigur Ros fan. The DVD is split into the documentary and then just a series of live sessions. The documentary covers the tour back home to Iceland in 2006 where the band complete a series of small to medium scale concerts. The vast Icelandic landscape is extensively utilized as a stunning backdrop to emphasize the sound of the band. Many of the concerts take place out in the open countryside, where fans and the curious walk or cycle to the venue. The scenery cannot be downplayed here, as it is integral to enhancing the atmosphere and melody of the music. Sigur Ros has a very unique sound that is typified by songs that begin with simple chords and build to wonderful crescendos and choruses. It is music that touches on alternative folk, classical and chamber music. There is no way you can separate their sound from the influence of the landscape. At the center is the otherworldly vocals of Jónsi Birgisson. The documentary follows them not just to concerts; but meetings with various musicians they hire for the concerts, family and past friends. It is a view of Iceland many of us will never get the chance to experience. The concert section of the DVD focuses on the concerts only, repeating some of the concerts shown in the documentary. But there are additions and the complete session is shown of each event. The highlight is the final set in an urban concert venue and the final song (#9)from ( ) album. It is a glorious wall of sounds, visuals and vocals that comes to a thrilling close. This DVD provides the opportunity to see a detailed look at a very unique band in the music world today. In addition, you get the chance to see some gorgeous scenery that at times will take your breath away.
Island discorver (2007-12-10) I just receive the DVD. Sound is very good and footage is amazing. Every little landscape part is a piece of a large picture from Island world. But the image is flicking and is't anoying. I try the DVD on many dvd player and it seen to be the same. Specialy into the outside footage the video is badly compress for the DVD. I expected a better dvd quality from Heima but is't ok. Sigur ros are very generous on that tour and if you know the band for a while just by the dvd. Is't great to see the band live,
