Editorial Reviews
From Amazon.com

Josh Groban is making it hard for anybody who can't say "classical crossover" without smirking to maintain an acceptable level of snobbery. Awake, his third studio disc and arguably his most personal--he co-wrote four tracks and favors his native English over Italian--boasts as many bold names as any tricked-out hip-hop disc: Dave Matthews, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Imogen Heap, and Herbie Hancock contribute in various capacities, and a slew of behind-the-scenes collaborators best known for their work in mainstream pop circles deepen the dimensions of a style widely considered claustrophobic. For all the studio doors that got opened to create Awake, though, Groban's signature sound never once slipped out to take the air; "the voice"--that hypnotic, spun-silk wonder of an instrument--is as concentrated as ever, and Awake, in addition to showing off its many splendors, serves as a vehicle for parading its versatility around. While "Un Giorno Per Noi," the deeply romantic theme to the 1968 film Romeo E Giulietta, delivers the Groban that fueled the sale of 16 million previous discs to soft-hearted fans, "Machine," with Hancock, gives up a new form of funk: dignified, classy, and surprisingly unstiff. --Tammy La Gorce

The best Groban yet- emotional and stunning! (2007-04-20)

I have been a devout Josh Groban fan from day one, but this new album pushes my obsession to new heights. The songs on Awake are truly awe-inspiring and speak to the heart. "Mai", "February Song", "So She Dances", and the Romeo and Juliet theme are among his best. This is music that one can listen to over and over, never tiring of it's complex beauty and emotion. Groban continues to further explore his amazing range and vocal techniques. If you love gorgeous medodies and can appreicate a truly gifted voice, Awake is a must-buy. The music will move your soul.
Great stuff, the guy's a genius! (2007-01-02)

Sorry, but Groban is a genius. Best tracks on this include "So She Dances, "Mai," Now or Never," and the great "Machine" with Hancock. Talk about crossover. If you haven't discovered Groban, you've been living under a rock. Thanks Josh!
Last 2 Albums Were Better (2006-12-21)

Just got a new hifi system and plugged in all 3 Groban CD's for a comparison and to test my new system. and hate to diverge from the previous absolute positive reviews on this album.Though I very much like and enjoy Josh's voice, I found the song selection on this album not as enjoyable as the previous 2...and here's why. First of all, there is too much non-english songs. Track #1 just bored me and was long winded especially when I didn't know what the heck he was saying.A few songs do stand out like track #7,9 but just doesn't have the play the whole CD through like the last 2 albums. Don't get me wrong, this album is good because his voice is flawless, but I feel everything is done so well, too well that it lacks a "rawness" to it.Nevertheless, this albumis worth the purchase especially for the Grobanites.
Another 5 stars (2006-11-29)

Wow. He likes to release albums around this time of the year, eh? Well, it's another sooooo far disappointing...another great album...I LOVE "So she dances"...that eerie music box tinkle at the beginning...his voice is as great as ever...and the songs he sings always does his voice justice...(I don't think that made much sense...) It's a great addition to his other 2 albums.
Amazing Voice! Heart-breaking Songs! (2006-11-15)

The previous review says it all so I will just say that this is his best CD ever and since he started with perfection....His voice is heavenly and it is only improving with maturity. I am not sure I would "dance" to the song Machine but it is an interesting experiment. But the best songs are those in which his classical voice is employed to its fullest. Some of them moved me to tears. A must have for all Grobanites.
