The rapid-paced banter between the mother-daughter team of Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) is the calling card for Gilmore Girls. The show's sixth year--which aired during the 2005-2006 TV season--remains witty, charming, and touching. The previous season left Yale undergrad Rory in trouble with the law after a night of very un-Gilmore-like behavior with her rich, handsome boyfriend Logan (Matt Czuchry). This season opens with Rory potentially facing jail time, undecided about returning to college, and--most disturbingly of all--fighting with her mother. This isn't a fight over who gets to eat the last egg roll, but rather a battle of wills. It will take a few episodes before the two are talking to each other again and the viewer can breathe a sigh of relief that all is well in Stars Hollow. In the meantime, Rory moves into her busybody grandparents' pool house. One evening, they invite their minister over to dinner. His job? To encourage Rory to remain chaste. Not one to be told how to live her life, Rory is nonplussed. After telling him he's a little too late to offer that advice, she asks, "Have you seen The 40 Year Old Virgin"?

After many years of playing verbal footsy, Lorelai and Luke (Scott Patterson) finally get serious and engaged. But just when things are going smoothly, Luke learns of a daughter he never knew he had. The introduction of the little girl doesn't do much for the plot--other than to slow it down and cause more fights between Luke and Lorelai. When Luke warns Lorelai, "I don't like ultimatums," she snaps back, "I don't like Mondays, but unfortunately they come around eventually." This 5-disc 22-episode set includes an eclectic and impressive range of guest stars (Skid Row's Sebastian Bach, Paul Anka, Sonic Youth, and Madeline Albright, who appears in a dream sequence as Rory's mom). But it's cast regular Kelly Bishop as Lorelai's mother Emily who is one of the show's true gems. Prim, proper, and judgmental, she's also fiercely protective of her brood. When she learns that Logan's mother said unfavorable things about Rory, Emily confronts the woman and puts her in her place. Politely, of course. By the end of the season, one of the main characters will get married, another will have an affair, and a third will have a dalliance with an ex-boyfriend. But the relationship between Lorelai and Rory remains strong. And that's what keeps viewers watching. --Jae-Ha Kim

in a very close race for best show on TV (2007-10-02)

Earlier on,in a review of CSI:Las Vegas, i wrote that CSI may bepossibly be the best show on the air.the only other show which might(imean might) be better is the Gilmor Girls. Now it isn't really fair tocompare the 2 shows, since they are not the same genre.CSI is a forensiccrime drama, which does employ dark humour at times.Gilmor Girls is adrama/comedy,but it uses wit and sarcasm as humour quite often.so iguess they really are not that similar at all.if you are not familiarwith the show it goes like this:Lorelai Gilmor(Lauren Graham) and herteenage daughter Rory(Alexis Bledel) cope with life in the small townof Stars Hollow.i say cope because they live in a town with some veryeccentric, some say odd characters.and there are a few that may just benuts.in addition to having to deal with the townsfolk, both also have tocontend with Lorelai's overbearing mother and distant Father, who liveoutside of town, but for reasons i won't reveal here, they must spendmore time than they want to with them.Or rather,Loralie must spend moretime than she wants to.there is more to the story than this, but i don'twant to give it away, for someone who has not seen the show. The show wascreated by Amy Sherman, who with her husband Daniel also wrote severalof the episodes up to and including season six.this show is amazinglywell written, and the dialogue is truly magnificent.one of thesignature devices in the show is the rapid fire, back and forth banterbetween Lorelai and Rory, and the way they communicate with each otherand other people . aside from being witty and sarcastic,is also veryedgy.it deals with some vary serious adult issues at times, and issometimes heartbreaking. The other thing Gilmor Girls is known for isit's pop culture references.each episode is peppered with them, some ofthem obscure.if you're not paying attention, you will miss a lot ofthem,as they are usually referenced machine gun style, almost as anaside.also if you not all that into pop culture, you may not get thereferences.anyway, the show started off brilliantly and has remainedso.this isn't just a chick show, despite what you may think.Guys willlove it too, though some may not readily admit it.if you haven't seenit, you should start by picking up season 1,since the storyline hasprogressed from each episode.what else can i sayexcept, awesome, awesome, awesome. 5/5
Amy Sherman-Palladino has left the building! (2007-05-09)

I am confused as to how Amazon can be selling this season, when it has not even finished airing yet. This season is the worst of the 7. Amy Sherman-Palladino, and her husband Dan, left the show at the end of the 6th season, and it shows. The writing is not as crisp or fast paced. The characters seem awkward and stiff. And the storylines are entirely too melodramatic, compared to what the previous six seasons were like. This season is bittersweet, as it will also be the last season of The Gilmore Girls. I think that Warner did the show a real disservice by not doing all that they could to keep the Palladinos. The show should not have had to end on this bad note. While the last few episodes of the season have decidely picked up, the rest of the season does not make it worthwhile to purchase. Sales will be based solely on viewer loyalty to a "once" great show.
There could have been more (2006-12-17)

I'd give this set a 5 star rating, but there is one big problem with it. There are no extras at all! Very disappointing. Anyone could have just recorded the episodes off the tv and had the same effect with an extra $50+ in their pocket. I honestly didn't know there were no extras. I'm extremely disappointed about it. Not that the other seasons had great extras, but they were still something fun to look forward to! A little reward after watching the season. To have nothing but a 20 second promo for the new season on the New CW is just cheap! Great season overall though. Lane gets married, Lorelai doesn't, Christopher is back in the picture, Emily & Richard are as feisty as ever, Logan and Rory make the perfect couple, and the list goes on...
