Marvelous Artistry (2007-12-20)

I saw Jim Brynes perform all these numbers in the intimate environment of the Cap College theatre. It was a spell-binding evening. Jim manages to be both personable, sincere, soulful and deep all at once. And the wonderful artists who back him up on this album were present and in peak form. Zubot and Dawson, on fiddle and and slide quitar, are true professionals and recording artists in their own right (and fun to watch as their totally opposite personalities play off against each other). And the Sojourners are wonderful gospel/blues singers. They all meld together beautifuly. This is and will remain one of my favourite albums ever.

Jim Byrnes is one of the best ever (2007-10-15)

I've enjoyed Jim Byrnes' music since I was in my 20's and used to go listen to him perform live with his band in a little lounge called Puccini's, in Vancouver. I practically wore out my Jim Byrnes LP's back then. I heard his version of Stardust on the radio and tracked it down to this album. Along with some of his usual straight blues, it has a lot of bluesy gospel which suits his gravelly voice. Gospel isn't something that I normally listen to, but I do enjoy this album very much... and of course his version of Stardust is sublime.
