The Darkest One (2006-09-11) Although being a big fan I found this season disappointing and disturbing. I kept hoping for the moments of life and lightness Clattenburg had woven through his previous compilations but was faced with characters not being true to type, despair, and utter sadness. Can tv shows only sustain their magic for a certain period of time? When the movie was announced I must admit I feared that the show had peaked and now it was going to be milked for everything before the final fall. See the movie! Buy the t-shirt! Buy the posters! Season Five had not one shot of Bubbles and his kitties. Ricky is less the lumbering, lovable goof and has become a vicious bully. Everyone is depressed, sullen, or angry. The only bright spot is the character of Phil Collins, that moon faced enabler. Barry Dunne carries a lot of the storyline and as far as I am concerned he should stick with producing. Except for a 30 second intro Barb is gone. Trina has disappeared. The commentaries are a bitter disappointment. Mike Clattenburg's voice overs on previous seasons have been the most intelligent, informative, entertaining I have ever come across. Lucy and Sarah's was just embarrassing. That said, the highpoint besides Phil Randall's performance was the doc on the building of the new trailer park. I would have gladly paid extra for that. Fascinating stuff! I had thought about writing to the Trailer Park Boys people to voice my concerns but realized it would probably be a waste of time. I noticed in the credits, and they are soooo long now, that Mike Clattenburg has not only listed himself as a writer but also as Head Writer. Hmmm, does this tell me anything about ego, humility, and show business? I wish all members of the Trailer Park Boys show much success and happy days but I wonder also if the thing they fought so hard to achieve will ultimately kill the talent and humanity that got them there.
Goin' downhill from season 4. (2006-06-26) TPB got me hooked since first season, and it never ceased to amaze me how well it was produced and acted from everyone involved all the way through season 4. However, season 5 has only a couple good episodes and season 6 is really cheesy, especially bubbles.Sorry, but seasons 1-4 are brilliant and among my favourite dvds. But starting from season 5, it looks like they began to run out of ideas, and season 6 is just a total disaster on showcase.
