Game Exceeded Expectations (2006-06-29) Despite early neutral reviews, I found TS2 to be a better-than-expected 360 title. As a fan of the sporting genre and a big fan of tennis in real life, I was excited to see a new Top Spin version released for the 360. The game met my expectations and then some. The gameplay takes some getting used to - there is a bit of a learning curve to really nail down the subtleties of spinning the ball, and power shots are especially tough, but once these things are figured out the game becomes addictive. Pro characters play true to their strengths IRL, although a few players are tougher in the game than they are on live courts. An example, Coria is one of the toughest guys in the game to beat because he's so fast and can run everything down. Fair enough, although beating Roddick was a breeze and even Federer was easier to beat for me than Coria. So true balance may be a small issue, but the players are pretty close to what you would expect. The custom player creation option is good fun and there are loads of options for customizing looks, attributes, etc. Once created, the training modes are creative and kind of fun, especially in between long tournaments. There are more than enough events to keep you challenged and the 5-year career mode is enough. The different surfaces are well done, especially clay, where sliding into a shot feels just like the real thing. My online experience has been positive so far, although people complain of "cheesy players" exploiting others by constantly lobbing, serving out wide, etc. I haven't had this experience yet and have enjoyed my time online. Besides, even if someone consistently serves out wide, it's legal, so I don't see the problem.Graphics look great, stadiums are fantastic, and ambient sounds are really well done. One drawback is the load time between events and modes. I found the slow loads to be a bit tedious, but once you're in an actual tournament this is no problem. PROS:Great feel, variety of shots, excellent graphics, good career mode and customization, ability to save the game mid-tournament, interesting training modes, neat pro player representation (although I would have loved to see Agassi included and maybe a "Heroes" mode like they do in boxing games - give the option to play with heroes of the past like Sampras, McEnroe, Borg, Lendl, Graf, Navratilova, etc - that would have been great).CONS:Slow loading times, slightly unbalanced pro players, learning curve for certain shots.Overall value: Excellent, especially at this lower price point. This game will become addictive if you're into tennis games.
