Good game, good price! (2006-01-04)

I got this game at WalMart the other day for $18.98. Unbelievable graphics! Great story, even if there are some cliches used. The combat system is unique, and I thought it would be tedious and boring, but I was dead wrong. It is great! I highly recommend this game. It brings back memories from yesteryear, back when I used to play RPGs on my NES and SNES consoles. Go get it now!
great rpg but not perfect (2005-08-16)

overall i loved this game wich kept me glued to my tv for several hours.let me give you a list of the pro's and the con'spro's 1.story is riveting although a bit predictable2.graphics and music are great3.battle system is inventive and a lot of fun although you have to rely on luck of the draw a lot wich can be frustrating at times but overall one of the best in the industry.4.characters and character development is very well done 5.gameplay is great and the flows easily plus you decide how long you want to play by choosing side quests or not wich dont affect the outcome but makes it all more challenging.6.not to many complicated puzzles just enough to keep it interesting knida like tales of symphonia.7.fun for the whole family something in it for everybody no matter age or gender.now for the con's.1.voice acting is below average2.ennemy roster is small and very repetitive and becomes unchallenging and predictable after a while, especially since the same monsters return when you come back to any screen wich can be very monotonus.Even bosses that you have disposed of keep coming back wich shows a lack of creativity in the game.3.some sidequests are extremely difficult and time consuming considering the rewards most of them are just not worth the time as far as im concerned.Plus i found that they did not give me enough info to complete them and i finished the game without finishing all of them because i couldn't figure it out.The actual storyline of the game is easier than the sidequests.4.i had to waste a lot of time powering up my characters wich because of the above mentionned reasons can be long and very boring and unrealistic.5.you are forced into fights that you dont want because the ennemys are always in the way and keep coming back even after you beat them in the exact spot to boot.6.cannot buy key weapons and items anywhere or for any amount of money wich is a pity.7.you cannot purchase or get info that you need to complete certain tasks wich for beginners or intermediate will make the game less enjoyable8.the world map is too small and too simple compared to most rpg9.finally the ending is kinda not what you expect.Wich i guess for some thats a good thing.thats it thank you for reading my revue and i hope it helped you to make an educated decision about buying this game wich i thouroughly enjoyed myself despite it's few flaws.have a good day

This is a wonderful game, unlike many games I've played in the past it has good replay value, an absolutely amazing battle system and great visuals and sound. The perspective you play from is unique, as the main character's guardian spirit, allowing you to make desicions that will change your relationship with Kalas, the main character. When I first heard that the game was card-based, I thought that the game would be a copy of Yu-Gi-Oh with a whole bunch of rules and special rules that would only allow you to play a certain defensive aura card in the third row from the bottom and would only affect magic- fairy type monsters, but it isn't like that at all. The battle system is incredible, and the cards work like this: You tkae out the card you want to use, called a Magnus, then you release the essence of the item that was trapped in the card, and the essence materializes in your hand as a weapon, so you aren't attacking with the card, you're using an actual weapon. Another really fun part of the game is the spirit numbers. Each card hes spirit numbers on it, and you try to string the numbers into certain combos, like straights, pairs and three of a kind. All the cards also have to be used in the pairs, so you cant play down cards with the spirit numbers 2,2, and 5 and get a pair, it has to be 2,2,2 or 2,3,4 etc. The voice acting, however, is terrible. The only good voice acting is done by Mizuti, who is actually really fun to listen to, but otherwise the voicezs are terrible. The kids are especially terrible, each of them sounding like theyre about 5 years old. The music is good and the graphics are absolutely stunning, especially in Mira, city of illusions. When you go into a building where they make pastries and other goodies, you see chocolate flowing down walls, and in Komo Mai, city of flowers, you can see garlands hanging across the screen and watch the wind gently ruffle the flowers. Aside from the voice acting, this game is amazing, a defenite must-buy for any RPG fan.
Very, Very Good Game (2005-07-13)

Baten Kaitos (named after the center star in the Cetus (A.K.A. the Whale) constallation) is a definite buy. True, it does not have the same greatness that was Tales of Symphonia (another Namco game), yet it does bring a very, very good game.

The story I found to be somewhat lacking. Overall it was very interesting, yet I found that it could've been a bit more in-depth. Yet it still was definatly well done.

The battle system is the gem in this game. The story is very, very good, but the battle system was the most well done thing in this game. I've been playing RPGs for 13 years, and this is the best battle system I've ever played with. It's so interesting and fun. I played for hours just leveling up because the battle system was so much fun to use.

The music was very well done. It went very well with the game. However, the voices were absoloutly lacking. The voice acting done by the main characters was quite good, but everyone else talked too slow and without almost any emotion. But overally, it didn't really effect the game that much, so it's a minor problem.

Overall, I give this game a 8.0 out of 10. There were no cutscenes (only the intro which was absoloutly AMAZING), only in-game cutscenes, which really was annoying. But overall, a very good game, and I definatly reccomend it.

It's one of the best games I've ever played.

Good game wrecked. (2005-07-07)

Baten Kaitos looked like a good game, but I rented it and I wasen't impressed. The voice-overs are terrible; although the idea of listen to the characters as some guardian is clever, they didn't need to make it sound like everyone is inside a space suit. Ether good voice-overs or no voice-overs.Also every battle item in the game is a deck of cards that are drawn randomly, at times leaving you at the mercy of the game. Some of the animations are kinda sluggish and the on screen characters are big, making it difficult to avoid enemy attacks in small area.On the plus side, some of the vissuals are good and it is a lengthy game (at least 40 hours), so you might enjoy this one if you can bypass the cons, but otherwize this isn't a good RPG for the Game Cube. Go with Tales Of Symphonia.
