If The Phantom Menace was the setup, then Attack of the Clones is the plot-progressing payoff, and devoted Star Wars fans are sure to be enthralled. Ten years after Episode I, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), now a senator, resists the creation of a Republic Army to combat an evil separatist movement. The brooding Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is resentful of his stern Jedi mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), tormented by personal loss, and showing his emerging "dark side" while protecting his new love, Amidala, from would-be assassins. Youthful romance and solemn portent foreshadow the events of the original Star Wars as Count Dooku (a.k.a. Darth Tyranus, played by Christopher Lee) forges an alliance with the Dark Lord of the Sith, while lavish set pieces showcase George Lucas's supreme command of all-digital filmmaking. All of this makes Episode II a technological milestone, savaged by some critics as a bloated, storyless spectacle, but still qualifying as a fan-approved precursor to the pivotal events of Episode III. --Jeff Shannon
Additional Features
Star Wars: Episode II, Attack of the Clones is a superior DVD, repeating many of the elements that made its predecessor, Episode I, The Phantom Menace, so good. The picture and sound are spectacular, helped immensely by the fact that the film was shot entirely in digital, making this the first live-action direct digital-to-digital DVD transfer. This version of the film was the one shown in digital theaters; there are subtle differences from the standard theatrical version, such as showing Anakin's right hand in the final scene. Again, there's a commentary track compiled from various people, including George Lucas (why can't he pronounce the names he created?), producer Rick McCallum, editor Ben Burtt, ILM animation director Rob Coleman, and three visual effects supervisors discussing how the film was made and offering teasers to Episode III.
On the second disc are eight deleted scenes with optional introductions. Most interesting are a scene of Padme addressing the Senate to oppose the creation of a Republic army, and some bits with her family and home on Naboo, but it's probably telling that, unlike with Phantom Menace, none of the deleted scenes was incorporated into the film on the DVD. Three substantial documentaries on digital characters, animatics, and creating sound elements are complemented by three insubstantial featurettes, a recycled but interesting 12-part Web documentary, and various other items that should keep fans busy while they wait for Episode III. --David Horiuchi

--David Rault

chapter 2(3.5/5) (2007-09-23) Attack of the Clones is a better effort than "The Phantom Menace".inchapter two we've moved ahead a few years.Anakin Skywalker is now ateenager,(and we begin to see the dark side emerge in him)and aheadstrong pupil of Obi-Wan Kinobi(Ewan McGregor)McGregor should havereceived an Academy Award for his uncannily bang on portrayal of youngObi-Wan.he had the intonation of Alec Guinness, who would play Obi-wanas an old man.truly amazing.anyway, back to the movie.again beautiful tolook at,not so strong in the stray dept, though ti does advance themovie a little bit.tons of action.as a matter of fact too much, too manythings going on to keep track of.also some fairly big leaps inlogic, and some suspect acting.still and all, better than "Phantom" 3.5/5
"Way Better Than Episode 1" (2007-08-31) INTRO:Star Wars doesn`t really need any introduction, the original Star Wars movies were and still are brilliant and entertaining, but the first of three prequel,1999`s "The Phantom Menace" was a deception to many fans who hoped to watch another great Star Wars movie. In 2002 the second prequel, episode II "Attack Of The Clones" is released,is it better than episode I,or is it as bad?Read on to find out.REVIEW:After the mistep that was "The Phantom",fans questionned themselves over wheter or not "Attack Of The Clones" was worth watching, well it actually is!Its definatly not another stinker like episode I.Episode II offers more action,a better storyline and while not extremely great it is worth watching. In this episode we start to see the transition of Anakin Skywalker from good to bad in his journey to become the evil Darth Vader. At this point it becomes clear that Anakin can`t control his anger and his feelings for Padme threaten to make him go to the dark side. While not "evil" in this episode,Anakin accumulates frustration and anger but it isn`t until episode III "Revenge Of The Sith"that he will really become evil and achieve his destiny.STORYLINE:Ten years after the events of episode I,Anakin Skywalker has matured to become a powerfull young Jedi with the help of Master Kenobi. The movie starts with an intense chase that takes a while to finnish so its action right from the start.Anakin is very arrogant and his feelings for Padme only causes him trouble, his love for her is something that he can`t control.A clone army has been put to action ten years before it was supposed to and they have to deal with the evil count Doku. The storyline is hard to describe and CAN be comfusing if you don`t know Star Wars a lot or haven`t seen any movies. All that to have the movie end with the awesome lighsabers fight. We finally get to see Yoda in a lightsaber duel,in the original trilogy it has been said that Yoda is a great fighter and in "Attack Of The Clones" we learn why!His lightsaber fight with count Doku was amazing and impressive. The sound is pretty impressive, you won`t find much better sound quality than this and episode III.If you have speakers or saw "Attack Of The Clones" in theater you know what i mean,if only the original movies would have this kind of sound! After watching "Attack Of The Clones" the missing pieces of how Anakin became Darth Vader start to put themselves into place and we learn more in this episode but its episode III has the final pieces and answers, its also great Star Wars movie.SPECIAL FEATURES:The special features are also pretty good taking a closer look of the movie, has 8 deleted scenes and even a docummentary on R2 and much more!OVERRAL:Not the best of the prequels, but it ain`t worst either its pretty good and should please most Star War fans."Attack Of The Clones" could have been better but it still is a big improvement over episode I and its a solid Star Wars movie that you have to see.
The Wars rage on, and get better and better!!! (2006-03-04) Those three long years were worth the wait. This movie, panned by many, still deserves the respect given to the other four in the series. I am not sure what people are demanding from Mr. Lucas. He is a master storyteller showing us what happens to Anakin. We all know what happens to him; this movie is explaining why he becomes so twisted and evil. This movie encapsulates everything in a neat, exciting, and interesting package. The dvd has a great set of extra features, a great hidden surprise(if you can find it...use the Force), and a plethora of other reasons it deserves its place in the Star Wars saga.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (Widescreen) (2004-12-16) This is the best darn DVD in the whole wide world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first all digital film (2004-11-05) This film was a great technical achievement, and a great movie to boot. The first time I saw it on the normal theatre. The second time in one of the few theatres that have a digital projector and wow quite a difference. A lot of people don't like the new Star Wars. Although they don't have the same drama as the originals, the light saber battles are incredible and make the old ones like silly. Star Wars has always been about sound. I NEVER HEARD A SOUND QUITE LIKE THE ONE IN THE ASTROID SCENE. If you have a good system with a subwoofer you know what I am talking about.
