Customer Reviews
BT is the best!!! (2004-01-02) this version of her "Britney" album is a good one. my favorite song on it would have to be "Before the Goodbye". BT did some of his best work on cowriting and producing the song. it is the best on the whole album.
It doesn't make sense... (2002-11-28) I had heard the original album when it first came out and thought it was much more mature than her previous work but there were still those damn m.martin songs that really hold her back from being the next Madonna. I think it would have been awesome if she relied on more overseas producers for this album. Btw I heard she is doing that for her 4th album- Guy Orbit and one of Kylie Minouge's producers are rumored to be working on it. Slave 4 U is good but it would have been a nice hidden gem if it wasn't a single at all. Most of the songs are good- Cinderella and Bombastic Love are just..bleh. Cheesy pop, she would have definately been better using I Run Away, Before the Goodbye and When I Found You. I Run Away: a very nice song. ok vocals- It sounds like she's gasping for air some parts but it's not bad. Before the Goodbye: HER BEST SONG- hands down. This should have been a single, if not the first single off of the album. It starts out like a trip hop, if your not familar with that listen to Craig David. Great vocals on this. The song just gets faster and faster and it could have been a great radio & club hit. BT is awesome. I could see a bright future for her if she goes in this direction. When I Found You: Nice beginning, sweet lyrics, nice vocals. It's kind of odd but it works- it sounds like it has Asian influence so maybe that's why she thought it would be better in Japan, or wherever she released it. Overall I hope Britney listens to her fans because the unreleased stuff is what will introduce her to a more mature audience. Britney, plese no more Max Martin songs- you can only tolerate that staccato piano background so many times.
All Britney fans must have! (2001-12-31) This CD is the 14 track Australian Import version of the US 12 track Britney CD. It includes two songs not on the US version: "When I found You" and "Before the Goodbye." These are two of my favorite songs on the CD and definitely should've been included on the US version of the CD and everytime I listen to them I can't figure out why they weren't included. "When I Found You" is a beautiful ballad. The song "Before The Goodbye" reminds me of N'SYNC's "Gone" at the beginning. The rest of the song sounds like a Destiny's Child type of song-it's got slower parts and faster dance music parts. It's a great song. This CD is a must have for any true Britney fan.
Better then the US not as Good as the Asian release (2001-12-23) Britney's Third album shines in it's import form. Containing two extra traacks that were foolishly deleted from the US release of the Album. 'Before The Goodbye' and "When I found you' are some of the stronger songs on the album.I'M A SLAVE 4 U- Bumps & Grinds its way onto the radio everywhere for her break out single, it was a wise choice because this album is intended to bring britney to an Older fan base.OVERPROTECTED- reminds us that britney has not yet left her pop roots and will be released as the second single in Europe. In the song it seems as though her writers have echoed what she has said in many interviews, "But who am I to say what a girl is to do, God I need some answers!"LONELY- again helps to not push the album too far away from what fans come to expect from Britney. Empowered, angry and in the mood for revenge this song borders britney on cursing "I won't take your 'huuuuuh!' no more."I'M NOT A GIRL, NOT YET A WOMAN- The Second Single in the US is the only real Ballad on the US album, A low key ballad co-written by DIDO the song seems to fit spears' voice better then past ballads.BOYS- The second song on the album produced by the Neptunes (who produced Slave 4 U, has a similar sound as slave, but breaks into a missmatched ballady part towards the end.ANTICIPATING- One of the Best songs on the CD, just fun, makes you want to go out and dance.I LOVE ROCK 'N' ROLL- Pretty much a straight cover of the Joan Jett hit, could have left this one on the Crossroads Soundtrack, would have helped sold the soundtrack, and seems missplaced on the CD.CINDERELLA- A great song that tears a little from some great madonna hits, the spoken word seems to bite too clearly from Madonna's "rescue me"LET ME BE- Still back to basics pop, with a strong beat.BOMBASTIC LOVE- The Song has a great beat, (Used in the opening of the Overprotected Video) However Lyricly it is just well (...)."Bombastic love, so fantastic. Where I'm completely yours and you are mine!"THAT'S WERE YOU TAKE ME- Fun and bopy! Nothing special.WHEN I FOUND YOU (BONUS)- What can I say a great Ballad that just should be on the US release!BEFORE THE GOODBYE (BONUS)- The BT produced song that is missing from the US, though not as good as 'I Run Away' (the other missing song only on the asian release) BTG definately is differnt for Britney and would have insured a new fanbase.WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE ME- with Justin Timberlake on back up vocals this song really should just have been on an N'SYNC CD... ew Justin! In the end this version may be better then the US (the US is WAY too short. However, the Asian version had I Run Away instead of Before the Goodbye and well it is just a great song. Her Best Ballad by far. "Lets pretend that I've Moved on, then I'll tell myself that life goes on without you..." So if you have the choice I would put your money on that one. However I wish there would be a version with all three missing songs, that would rock!
Satisfying, but something's missing. (2001-12-08) Britney can't catch a break from her fans. She can't please all of them, that's a fact, but she can definately entertain them. She is probably the coolest pop star out there. She can give what we want, even if she doesn't really aim for different musical style. The worst thing about this album is probalby its title, 'Britney'. This isn't Britney all the way. This is the thrid album that got released in a record time, with manufactured pop. There'll come a time (hopefully) when Britney is going to an album that'll be for her what 'Ray of Light' was to Madonna, and that album should much more like her. Now, a look into the 14-track album: I'm A Slave 4 U - It's a nice song and something different from Britney has acostumed us to. This song shouldn't have definately have been the first single, because, although it is a very sexy song (not sexy because of the panting in the middle, because of it's instrumentals and way of singing), it's not very catchy and doesn't really make any justice to the album. This probably was an atempt to turn this album into an 'Erotica' (Madonna) or something. Overprotected - Standard pop. Nice, with more deep lyrics. She sings about her lif and she wants, but that somewhat contradicts her 'real' life. She's always surrounded by bodyguards wherever she goes, not because she doesn't want to (she did claim it's awful to give a lot of autograhs at once), but because they have to be with her 24/7. Nice song, but, since this will be the next single (in Europe) this should not have any dance, since it's a statement, not something worthy to dance to. That's probably a misfire. The bonus tracks 'When I Found You' and 'Before The Goodbye' clearkly save the album from going down. The B-Side 'I Run Away' is also one of the best Britney has done and they shloud be stand-out, not stand-ins. If I was Britney's PR, I would definately choose 'Before The Goodbye' as the lead single, since it is different from everything Britney's done (it actually has guitars mixed with eletronic tunes) and amazingly entertaining lyrics. The ballad When I Found You manages to be better then the Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman one, penned by M.Marin, Rami and Dido. Britney has a low profile in that ballad to hide her (somewhat) weak voice, which is not bad, but I wonder what Christina Aguilera would've done with her(probably shout too loud, like she usually does, but if she contained her voice a little, this song might've worked better for her). Anther tracks, like Bombastic Love and Lonely could've replaced 'Don't Go Knockin' On My Door' and 'Can't Make You Love Me' on her last album (Oops!... I Did It Again), respectively, because they both sound like those ones, but are much better. Lonely has a very small acoustic part in the middle that makes the song worthy listening, but then the rap afterwards completely destroys the song. Bombastic Love has a chorus and a beggining to die for. They're very good. The song is like Overprotected: standard pop. The cover this time around isn't all that great. Britney's cover of Joan Jett's I Love Rock And Roll is too tight and it seems that Britney was rushing to end it, since she sings the song really quick. If only there was some guitar interludes in the middle, that would've made all the diference. By this time, I wondered: Gee, is this really what Britney is about ? No, she isn't. Britney is cool, but she somehow lost herself in what she wanted to show us. Another misfire for the album (but not a bad song, just not appropriate in this context) is 'That's Where You Take Me', which sounds like a remix of a ballad, and is pretty convincing. The chorus is great, but the instrumental tune can be rather childish (added to the fact that she actually sings 'la la la la la' in a part of the song). What It's Like To Be Me is a very cool tune. Definately a nice song. But buy the time we really wanna hear the clĂmax of the song, it ends. It only has 2:50 minutes and it's soooo small. Britney definately is nice and sweet and a real person, but the way this album was produced makes her look more like a product, then the real Britney, since every song seems to be manufactured on some level or desperately trying to please us...
