Electrifying performers and pure-pop songwriters of the highest order, Toronto's Barenaked Ladies have emerged over a decade as that strangest of beasts. They'll never land a dishy cover story in Mojo Magazine, but as they reflect on those ribald years between 1991 and 2001, the five can allow themselves wry smiles, knowing that sometimes, just sometimes, the cream rises to the top. In addition to familiar radio staples such as "Pinch Me," "The Old Apartment," "Jane," "Alternative Girlfriend," and the ubiquitous "One Week," there's a trump card on All Their Greatest Hits that will prove irresistible to completists: the Ladies' buttery, acoustic version of Bruce Cockburn's "Lovers in a Dangerous Time." Recorded eons ago for a Cockburn tribute disc that almost immediately went out of print, the song has until now been a rare and highly coveted collector's item. Two news songs--"Thanks That Was Fun" and "It's Only Me (The Wizard of Magicland)"--were recorded specifically for this collection, while two others ("Brian Wilson" and "What a Good Boy") are captured live. But what really brings this album home is, ironically, "If I Had $1,000,000." One of their very first hits cut as the Ladies were learning to dovetail their so-called "acoustic hip-hop" into slicker pop sensibilities, "$1,000,000"--a simple knock-kneed love song with harmonies so tight they're practically braided--is a snapshot of a band with all the pieces in place just as the planets were about to align. --Kim Hughes

Great Introduction to Barenaked Ladies for newcomers (2004-07-06) If you do not own a Barenaked Ladies CD this is a good selection for you. I suspect those new to the Ladies will find tracks on thsi CD they are familiar with but did not know the artist. My favorites on this disc include, "Jane", "Lovers in a dangerous Time", and a very nice live recording of "What a good boy".
vintage Barenaked Ladies (2004-04-26) This is easy-listening rock that does not suck. Barenaked Ladies basically sound like the Beach Boys but better, more depth and talent. This is a great collection of their best songs, new and old. they also have the best name of any band David Rehakauthor of "A Young Girl's Crimes"
Greatest hits for sure (2004-04-18) I normally listen to music that is not quite as fast as this (eg Neil Young and Crosby Stills and Nash) but I really really like this CD. Two of my friends and I drove to Florida and my one friend popped this CD in, and I was like wow this is really good. I made my friends listen to the entire CD like 5 times on this trip, and the day back from the trip I went out and bought this CD. I highly recommend it. Really no fillers, some of my favorites though are Falling for the First Time, Brian Wilson, If I Had a Million Dollars, It's All Been Done Before, and Pinch Me.
Not bad....not bad at all (2004-02-17) Being a fan of many different styles of music I was surprised that it took me till that car commercial to find the fabulous music of BNL. After that faithful day watching TV I bought Stunt and have never looked back. I bought this greatest hits CD to help round out the collection and was not disappointed at all. Following is a rating on each song, well my rating any way...1. The Old Apt/ 9/102. Falling for the First Time/ 10/10 3. Brian Wilson/ the live version is goo but I was never a big fan of the song in the first place./ 4/104. One Week/10/10 obviously the start of my obsessive madness5. Be My Yoko Ono/ 9/10 because their never ending ability to crack me up6. Alternative Girlfriend/ 8/10 rockish but still good7. Its Only Me/ 6/10 but it grows on you8. If I had $1000000/ listen to it 200 times, and it will still be funny9. Call and Answer/ 8/1010. Get in Line/ 5/1011. Its all Been Done/ 9/1012. Jane/ 6/1013. Lovers in a Dangerous Time/ 6/1014. Pinch Me/ 10/1015. Shoebox/ 10/1016. What a Good Boy/ 10/10 This one is just great17. Too Little Too Late/ 10/10 goofy fun just plain lovable18. Enid/ 9/1019. Thanks that was fun/ 10/10 A new one but earns its place with the best. As always BNL is great and this collection of new and old showcases their talent from every light.
Great CD....Has All Of The Hits (2004-02-16) Im a relatively new and old BNL fan. In second grade i bought Stunt when it first came out, as my first CD. I listened to that thing every day...loved it. Then i discovered rap and was hooked on the catch beats and whatnot. But now that im halfway through my 8th grade year, i got tired of the made for TV rappers who had no fan relations and took their music waaaaay too serious. I was playing my old NHL 2002 video game, and heard "It's Only Me" on it. I remembered that i still had stunt so i went and popped it into the sterio. And with that i havn't looked back. I love every song. Wanting to sample some of the music from their other cd's tha i had missed out on, I bought BNL's greatest hits. WOW. Their music is so liberating compared to the either dark and dirty, or flashy rap music. All i can say is that Brian Wilson and Old Apartment are great pieces of work that didnt get nearly enought media credit. To all the readers of this, please go buy this CD. BNL's Music is amazing. They can be funny, romantic and thoughtful all in the same song. What a relief that the music indistry has a group like this to fall on when all else fails.
