Editorial Reviews
From Amazon.com

Three of the biggest instrumental pop hits ever recorded were by trumpeters Hugh Masekela, Herb Alpert, and Chuck Mangione. Botti's fourth album comes equipped with more than enough catchy and light melodies to compete with that legacy, but it will probably be "All Would Envy," one of the two vocal tunes on Night Sessions, that will help this disc dent radio and sales charts. It's a song given an irresistible Brazilian lilt by its composer, Sting, who Botti has toured with, and sung hauntingly by Shawn Colvin. Like those aforementioned horn players, Botti does put an emphasis on rhythm on upbeat groove tunes like "Miami Overnight," "Streets Ahead," and especially "Blue Horizon," which has more than a hint of Europe's drum & bass sound, and features killer keyboard work by Billy Childs and album producer Kipper. But it's the Alpert-influenced "Through an Open Window," with its rock guitars and slick melody line that many may consider the hottest track. Most of the other tracks consist of Botti's crisp clear tone cutting through the kind of atmospheric, heavily padded keyboard music that has gotten him on smooth-jazz radio and Hollywood soundtracks. --Mark Ruffin

Chris Botti - a man living a jazz dream. (2004-02-24)

As one might think, Chris Botti is indeed at the top of his game when it comes to jazz. Through a cutting display of Miles like gimmicks, Botti takes a serious adult contemp groove, and explores, among other things, a loose feel of hip hop funk rhythem. An array of different stadard styles allows Botti to expieriment with alternet sounds, resulting in an urban mix of smokey jazz room, and dance club atmospheres.

When it comes down to it, there are not enough cliche'd words to say about the musicianship recorded on this album. Of course the whos who the recording industry are all playing on this record. It is not flawless, but I would have to be very spicific about my critism, almost arrogent or nit picky. better than previous records.

Amazing, The trumpet is very much alive. (2003-12-30)

Chris Botti, totally smooth right? Is it possible to be smoother?? Yep, and Chris proves it. Teaming with the brilliant Kipper, he throws the charm on within the first 2 notes. It's a total straighforward slick and sound release from Botti. I can't imagine anyone but music snobs dissing this one.
Great Disc (2003-12-27)

Chris Botti is an amazing trumpet player. I have had the honor of hearing him play with Sting, as well as showcasing his own music at a small outdoor concert. (I even had the privledge of meeting him). His music is incredibly moving and almost every single track on this disc is absolutely wonderful. This guy is extremely talented and the kindness he exhibited towards his fans was extremely admirable. Knowing his music is created with a true love for what he does makes it that much more beautiful. Dominic Miller is also brilliant on this CD.
Excellent (2003-10-27)

A great cd to add to your jazz selection. I really haven't heard this until I bought the cd on just for fun. I have to hit replay for all the tunes. Now I have to buy the new cd - can't wait.

Chris Botti might be one of the most overlooked"stars" of our time and this album is one of hisbest. The song "All Would Envy" strikes the heartand becomes addictive--so much truth in the wordsand the vocals are dazzling.
