Anne at her very best! (2003-08-09) These were the first two Anne Murray albums I ever bought, and they sound as fresh today as they did when they were new. I was so happy to see them both offered as one unit. "Somebody's Waiting" is definitely my favorite of the two albums, but they are both excellent. Unfortunately commercial success eluded the album, but I feel it was due more to the fact that it followed too closely behind "I'll Always Love You" and it's megahit singles "Broken Hearted Me" and "Daydream Believer" than to any lack of quality of the material included in "Somebody's Waiting". In fact, I think its highest charting single, "Lucky Me", is a much better song than either of the hits from "I'll Always Love You". Moreover, none of the songs on "Somebody's Waiting" have that "filler" feel of songs that are there just to meet the quota of tracks for an album of its day; every song is unique and very good. "Moon Over Brooklyn" is marvelous and "Nevertheless (I'm In Love With You)" is an excellent version of an old standard and undoubtedly inspired Anne to record her later album of standards, "Croonin'". Overall, these are two albums that I sorely missed and am so happy to finally have on CD.
I'd rather give this 10 stars! (2003-01-24) I got hold of the LP I'll always love you last summer. To call it great is an understatement. I love Anne's earthy vocals on Why don't you stick around, I love the lush, emotional and heartfelt Broken Hearted Me. But everything on this album is worthwhile, excellent, beautiful. I love the country tinges, the adult contemporary. In short, I'll always love you alone is worth the price of this collection. It is a masterpiece. Anne is a fine vocalist, I can't think of many who could sing better than her performance on this collection. Do yourself a favor and buy this cd.
Simply Beautiful and Dreamy! (2002-11-23) I bought the vinyl, "Somebody's Waiting" when I was 16 and the songs remained playing in my head over and over again for more than 20 years without listening to the album (my record player broke down since I was 18 and the vinyl format, as we all know, became obselete more than a decade ago)! That is how powerful this album is for me. The melodies are beautiful and lyrics meaningful! This is one of Anne's best album ever (the other ultimate albums of hers that I can't live without are "Lets Keep it That Way" and "New Kind of Feeling"). I spent years looking high and low for it and praying that someday it will be released on CD and one can imagine the joy when I saw it offered on Amazon! Listen to the outstanding tracks like "Lucky Me", "Moon over Brooklyn", "What's Forever for", "The French Waltz","Beginning to feel like Home", and "Somebody's Waiting". Simply Beautiful!
Romantic music doesn't get much better than this (2002-06-29) I have many Anne Murray CD's. I chose this to review first, simply because I'll always love you has always been my favorite album of hers. I like Somebody's waiting too - it's certainly not as bad as some of the other reviewers claim. My favorite track is Wintery feeling. I don't think even Jeri Southern could have done better than Anne with this song. (For those unfamiliar with my tastes, I regard Jeri as the best singer of love songs in the history of popular music). I think Anne, being Canadian, sings this song with real understanding - she knows what winter is all about !!!!! Anne picks up the tempo here and there, particularly with the Monkees classic Daydream believer, but it's the soft, romantic songs that are the reason to buy this album. The second half of this twofer, the Somebody's waiting album, has it's own highlights. I particularly like I'm happy just to dance with you, a lesser-known Beatles gem. This album, like I'll always love you, is dominated by soft, romantic songs, with one or two songs that pick up the tempo for a bit of variation. These two albums sit comfartably together on this CD. If I only had to keep one of Anne's CD's, it would be this one. Some critics would like to see a bit more variation in Anne's repertoire. I don't agree. Anne has a particular niche in the market, and is one of the best at what she does. When I want to hear something different, I listen to somebody else. There are a few singers who can (and do) record in a variety of different styles, but they are not always more successful as a result.
"I'll Always Love" Anne Murray's music (2001-11-23) I'll Always Love You album is my all time favorite from Anne Murray-it's melancholy tunes hit the spot on a cold, wintery evening-along with a glass of wine, a cozy fire and the one you love.
