Is That Carrot Top? (2004-07-20) With such hits like "Come And Get It," "Day After Day," and "Baby Blue," Badfinger (whatever that means) is certainly a band that was capable of making good music. Unfortunatley the only thing they'll be remembered for is the fact that they are one of the ugliest bands of all-time, capped off that their drummer looks like the not-so-funny prop comic Carrot Top.
The essential tracks are here... (2004-02-12) Badfinger perfectly captured the sound and attitude of the popular music of the time. Indeed, many of these songs are as good as anything released in the early 1970s (Come and Get It, Day After Day, No Matter What). The band also had a way with a Beatle-esque ballad (as evidenced by the hit Without You, and Carry On Til Tomorrow). Not all of the material on this collection is as strong, and some tracks (like Apple of my Eye) are noticibly absent - but that's a common complaint when evaluating "Best Of" compilations. The essenial tracks are here, and there should be enough to keep you rocking for a long time. Recommended.
Great Badfinger Compilation (2004-02-07) This new Badfinger compilation contains both Apple and Warner tracks. Undoubtedly this album will be a good appetizer and a good place for "newcomers" to start, All the hits are here and most of the immediately catchy songs too. Good to see Pete Ham so well-represented; and also great that "I'll Be The One" , the great lost single, is included. Obviously there are many great songs left out. I would like to have seen "Apple of My Eye", "Blind Owl", "Shine On", "Know One Knows" and some of the great "Head First"-tracks included ( "Keep Believing", "Lay Me Down", Mr Manager", "Moonshine" etc, ) . Also a bit disappointing that that none of the great still unreleased Apple tracks were not included as bonus-tracks. ( e.g. "Sing For The Song" and "Baby Please"). Still a great release
Nicely done (2003-12-18) All too many times in recent years a Badfinger compilation has come along trying to pass itself off as a "greatest hits" collection and wildly missing the mark. This is the first one that hasn't disappointed me by either dismissing "Ass", (the excellent final Apple album,) or the two equally excellent Warner Brothers albums. While I'm aware that there is no such thing as the perfect greatest hits album for everyone, this one at least gives a measured overview of the career of a band that had it all and lost it so tragically.
One of classic rock's most overlooked bands (2003-10-26) In the seventies, rock and roll reached a golden age which it would never again reach. Unfortunately, with the coming of the modern age, in which a number of godawful bands that sound alike are dominating the music scene, many of the truly great bands have become forgotten. Badfinger is no exception to this rule. More likely than not, this is the band's best-known hits compilation. Read on for my review of The Very Best Of Badfinger. PROS:-If you're just a casual fan and you're seeking only Badfinger's biggest hits, this compilation won't fail to please you. Day After Day, No Matter What, and Come And Get It (written by former Beatles member Paul McCartney) are all here for your listening pleasure.-Perhaps the greatest thing about this compilation is that it gives you a TON of underrated masterpieces.-This compilation is affordable.-It's also readily available in most major CD stores. CONS:-There really isn't a whole lot wrong with this compilation, other than the fact that a few less-deserving tracks got picked for it instead of some more-deserving ones. Another reviewer gave some pretty good examples of this, so check his review out to see what I mean. OVERALL:Badfinger was one hell of a rock band, and ultimately this compilation does them justice. If you're a fan of seventies classic rock, don't pass Badfinger by.
