One of the greatest games of all time (2005-07-16) I've adored FFVI since it was released as FF3 in North America. I also loved everything I heard about FFV, so I bought Anthology when I found it. I haven't regretted it for one minute. If you like true RPGs then you will love this set. FFV is amazing. You can probably find storyline summaries, so I'll just say that the graphics were state-of-the-art in their time, the storyline is great compared to some of the more modern Final Fantasies, the characters are cute (although Faris' pirate accent can get on your nerves), the music is fantastic, and the job system is the best ability system in any FF to date, IMHO. I ran into a problem on the Save screen on my PS2, but I went into the menu and changed the Disc Speed (I run a PS2 Slim, on PS2 original I believe it's under the PS1 driver menu) which not only cuts the loading times by an amazing amount (it's almost like you're playing it on a cartridge again!) but it also makes the save screen pop up normally more often for me. If you can't get it to appear normally, just remember that the three selections are Memo, Slot 1 and Slot 2 from top to bottom. Make sure your mem card is formatted so you don't get confused when you try to save and it doesn't. Then just go to the selection you want and press X, then X again (or, if you want to use multiple save spots, you can press Down after you press X the first time, just make sure you're not overwriting any of your other save files that you might want to keep!) FFVI is one of the greatest RPGs ever, possibly even one of the best games ever. The characters are interchangeable and interact with each other in certain situations (even giving you cut-scenes if you have certain people in your party together), the enemies (well, Kefka, at least) are almost believable, and you can't help but feel with the characters going through the storyline. The graphics were the best possible on the SNES/SuperFamicom console, and the music is perfect throughout. The CD included has a lot of nice music on it, although I would have loved to have heard the music from, for example, Celes' opera. Even so, there are a few themes on here worth listening to, such as The Dungeon, Mambo de Chocobo, Phantom Train, Johnny C. Bad, and Epitaph. All in all, definitely a 5 Star set.
Two of the finest Final Fantasy games ever made.... (2004-12-27) While I have enjoyed every game in the series, let's just face thefact that ever since the series went all-graphics and presentation, some of the other features that make a good rpg have gone downhill. The stories are weaker, the characters are less likable and the battle systems are either too confusing or too dull.Anyway,Final Fantasy Anthology is a testament to what FinalFantasy used to be.Unpretentious, fun and full of heart. The firstgame in this collection is Final Fantasy V.Now,I won't lie.Part Vis not perfect. Its story and characters are weaker that in sayIV,VI or VII.However, its battle system is the greatest of any game in this series.I can spend hours just messing with that wonderful job system. There's many possibilities with the way you can battle here. But not in that every character is basically the same aside from the limit breaks way.You can make every character useful and unique in their own way. Now,yes, the story is only okay but it's not terrible.By Final Fantasy standards,it's just fine.Let's face the fact that few Final Fantasy games have truly great stories that live up to the hype, anyways. The characters are subpar, though.Still better than the first game's completely faceless characters but blah compared to its predecessor,FFIV.The graphics are perfectly fine considering the time. The music is still beautiful even today.Basically, despite the weak story, this is one of the better Final Fantasy games because of the battle system and huge fun factor. The other game in this collection is the mother of all good rpgs Final Fantasy VI.Many people say this is the best of the series and quite frankly with the exception of FFVII,none can compete. Its story is wonderful. It even improves on IV's standards and the characters are more likable than pretty much ALMOST anybody from IX or X.The battle system isn't as godlyas V's but it's still a lot of fun and the characters all have something that can make them useful in battle unlike VIII where the only true difference lied in the limit breaks. As far as I'm concerned, despite the dated graphics,FFVI is still far more impressive than most of its successors.I guess I have to mention the music. The music of VI remains the best of any game in the series. In my opinion,FFVI is as flawless as a game can be.So basically with Anthology, you get a great game that suffers slightly because of the story and characters AND you get one of the greatest games of all time.Oh yeah and both games suffer a bit here because of all those loading times but at least the few FMVs are really nice.

I hate all RPGs!! (2004-07-15) I have played this game and I hate it!! Instead of just killing people and blowing up tanks, you have to walk around and find stuff; and when you do fight, you engage one enemy at a time take turns fighting, how stupid is that?!! NOBODY take turns figting in real life. Also, why does Final Fantasy and a bunch of other RPGs take place in Medieval Times? Why is it all ogre and dragon slaying? I also don't like FF's mixture of Medieval and modern technology. You should just play a game where you're surrounded by enemies and all you do is obliterate them. I'm basically talking about games like Halo, MechAssault, Turok 2:Seeds of Evil, and Star Wars:Shadows of the Empire; those are the great games!! Also, none of those games are a part of the Playstation monopoly, infact, none of those games are available for PSX or PS2. All RPGs suck as a matter of fact!! Stick to first/third person shooter games, they're much better because you kill and destroy minus the long storys and searching for crap. I made some good choices in my life, those are purposely buying a Sega Genesis so I can play Sonic and Ren and Stimpy:Stimpy's Invention but not FF. The other is purposely buying an N64 so I can play Star Wars:Shadows of the Empire and Turok 2:Seeds of Evil but not FF. The last is purposely buying an XBOX so I could play Halo and MechAssault but not FF. Boycott this garbage, you won't be sorry!!
one of my favorite games, and a decent one (2003-06-19) Final Fantasy Anthology features the Playstation debut of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI. FFVI first appeared on the SNES, but was known as Final Fantasy III at the time (it was the third Final Fantasy to make it to America, but the sixth overall in Japan). Final Fantasy V was only released in Japan and Anthology makes the American debut of the game. Ive been a long time fan of the Final Fantasy series, so I was extremely happy that I was now able to play these games on the Playstation. It was nice to have all of my Final Fantasy on the same system. There have been complaints about the loading time between battles and menu screens, and while the loading times are not great (or even good), they did not distract me at all while playing the games. These were just minor complaints for me. Final Fantasy V:As I stated above, this is the first time that Final Fantasy V was playable in the United States. Graphically, the game is similar to Final Fantasy IV (the one with Cecil and Golbez), but there is a significant difference. The difference is that there is a job based leveling system now. This predates Final Fantasy Tactics, but it is similar (less refined, perhaps). As you progress through the game, your abilities in battle depend on what job class you have chosen to be, and mastering multiple job classes is key to beating the game. The story is somewhat of a let down after Final Fantasy IV. I feel this is one of the weaker games in the series, but it is still fun. Final Fantasy VI:This is my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time. While I have loved most of the games, and enjoyed the rest, this one stands first in my heart for the Final Fantasy series. This game has good graphics for the SNES era, and a long, involved story dealing with magical creatures called Espers and the greed of some humans to steal that magical power. The story does not center directly on any one character, but a case could be made for Terra, Celes, Locke, and perhaps Edgar as the fourth lead. The absence of a true lead character adds to the development of the story since it doesnt follow one character but follows a plotline where character move in and out of the story arc. I found this game to be incredibly fun to play and was by far my favorite of the series.
