From Amazon.com

A hint: there are no Wham songs on George Michael's 10-tune tribute to the music of the 20th century. There is a song by the Police ("Roxanne"), but the reggae ballad is rendered in such a turgid manner, it resembles nothing so much as a lounge singer stoned on Quaaludes. Elsewhere, the silver-tongued former club kid covers Rodgers & Hart ("Where or When"), U2 ("Miss Sarajevo"), and Ewan MacColl ("The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"). He pours so much calculated sentiment on top of each track that the entire record oozes a prefab corniness even Hallmark would recoil at. This is not to deny the power of George Michael's velvety, potent voice (although it does sound much better singing catchy dance-pop ditties) nor the fact that he's selected an interesting selection of ballads and folk and torch tunes. And Phil Ramone's production never veers from the middle of the road, unobtrusively shifting from smooth big-band jazz to Disney movie-ish harp accompaniment. If this CD is Michael's attempt to join the company of great song interpreters of the past, from Frank Sinatra to Billie Holiday, he will have to take a lot more chances and lose the sappy reserve. --Mike McGonigal
Chronique amazon.fr

--Mike McGonigal

George's voice is smooth and sexy on this recording. He did an impeccable job with the arrangements. The only song that didn't fit was "Roxanne". He did a great job in arrangeing the song to fit a jazz feel, but in my opinion, he could have chosen another song that wasn't in the rock genre. Buy this if you're a George fanatic or if you like jazz.
Going down? (2003-09-16)

Havig been a huge George Michæl fan ever since his Wham days, and being a huge fan of old school songs. I awaited this CD with great anticipation.

Unfortunately it all fell apart already the first time I heard the CD.

This is not art, this is plain boring...

Nice vocals... (2003-08-15)

This is not George Michael's best album. If you are not a George Michael fan you may not have ever listened closely to his lyrics. Believe it or not the lyrics on his three original solo albums are full of depth and beauty. This album is just covers of some of his favorite songs. Perhaps because of my age (late twenties) a lot of these songs are completely foreign to me. If you're new to George Michael and want to hear some great music I recommend Older and "Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1" as two great albums where George is at his best.
