Not As Good As The Studio Recorded Versions But Still Great! (2004-02-09) I'm not one for live cds but i must say this is one of the best! The only other live cds that i can say even compare are kiss & ac/dc! In my oppinion i This this much better than"Live Bullet"! The track list is much better & seger's voice is much stronger! Highly recomended if u like live recordings!
****1/2 (2004-02-01) "Nine Tonight" is a mixture of R&B, rock n' roll and, well, pop, with some really catchy shout-along songs and a few good guitar and saxophone solos as well. Sure, the approach may be a bit similar, but there's a lot of quality material here: A few hard rock tunes ("Nine Tonight", "Feel Like A Number", "Betty Lou's Gettin' Out Tonight), three or four ballads ("Against The Wind", "We've Got Tonight", "Mainstreet"), and a good handful of mid-tempo rockers, especially a great rendition of the funky "Tryin' To Live My Life Without You", the simple but melodious "You'll Accomp'ny Me", and the raunchy "The Fire Down Below". "Nine Tonight" may not be the most original rock album ever, but it's great fun, filled with good tunes, good singing, good playing and good arrangements. The sound is very good, and virtually every song is good or even great. Also, "Nine Tonight" has a nice concert "feel" to it. If you like Bob Seger, you'll like "Nine Tonight". And if you don't know too much about him, this is a good place to start - better than "Greatest Hits", since most of the songs have more nerve and power in this live setting.Definitely recommended.
5 stars were it not for the edited version (2003-12-05) I got this album on vinyl at the end of the Eighties and inmediately fell in love with it cause very few sets can top this one, and I just ripped the cd version a friend of mine lent me yesterday. A nasty surprise was waiting for me - the most rockin' song on the cd (Let It Rock) has been edited for this one, and unnecessarily so, because the normal version appearing on the vinyl would've had room here as well, being only two minutes longer than the edited one (For the record, the cd's running time is 73 min, so there was no need to cut the song). The keyboard and sax solos after Drew Abbott's incredible solo have been lost alongside the 'shake, baby shake' audience chanting as well. This annoying thing aside, the cd rocks all the way through, despite the fact it has not been remastered and this is something we'd all have acknowledged, no matter the vinyl sounded awesome. 4/5.
Another Great Bob Seger Live Album (2003-09-12) NINE TONIGHT is another great live record by Bob Seger. It's not as great as LIVE BULLET, but it contains some tracks from NIGHT MOVES and STRANGER IN TOWN, which makes it quite excellent. Granted, "Tryin' To Live My Life Without You" is not a great expression of artistic freedom, but the title cut (from URBAN COWBOY) is. Most of the other songs are great, and this would be Seger's sixth great album in a row.
Live Bullet 2 (2003-08-06) In this sequel to LIVE BULLET,we hear songs from the studio albums following LIVE BULLET. They are NIGHT MOVES,STRANGER IN TOWN and AGAINST THE WIND. This set,NINE TONIGHT,is appropriately titled. I supposed this album was taken from various concerts that began at 9 PM. NINE TONIGHT is from the movie "Urban Cowboy". Bob Seger recalled in an interview that NINE TONIGHT was intended for the AGAINST THE WIND album. But the producer for the "Urban Cowboy" soundtrack album had the song ready for inclusion on the album(UC). This album was recorded at Cobo Hall in Detroit in June 1980 and Boston Garden in October 1980. The AGAINST THE WIND album was being promoted when this album was recorded. Seger has a new keyboard player,Craig Frost, succeeding original Silver Bullet keyboardist Robyn Robbins and David Teegarden,a new drummer. Teegarden replaced original Silver Bullet drummer Charlie Allen Martin, who quit the band due to an auto accident that parayzed him. Like LIVE BULLET,LET IT ROCK was the final track on the album. This version is more electrifying. The CD has an edited version because otherwise it would have been believed that would exceed the maximum playing time on a CD. Or,it would have become a 2 CD set. The LP gives LET IT ROCK's playing time as 8 minutes and 45 seconds. The CD version is only a little over 6 minutes.
