Simply The Best!! (2002-02-07)

This is a terrific box set!! If you are into Peter Sellers, you'll be in heaven. Just about all of his solo work is here....and then some! His four LPs are here intact, plus bonus tracks on each disc. Also the original album art work is on the inside cover of each CD. They sound fantastic too! The set comes with a booklet containing lots of great vintage photos plus EP and 45 cover art. I have been into this guy ever since I was about 10 years old and I heard him do "Puttin On The Style" (from the 2nd CD) where he interviews himself as Lennie Goonigan (Lonnie Donnegan) and proceeds to do a number incorporating many titles from Donnegan's skiffle days. In "The Trumpet Volunteer" he is again interviewed by himself as Tommy Iron (Tommy Steele) and goes on to do a rock'n'roll version of Percel's 'Trumpet Voluntry.' There are some things that I'd never heard before, like Tom Jones singing "Come To Me" with a guest appearance by Inspector Jacques Clouseau and a couple of tracks with Sophia Loren....they clearly had a ball in the studio and man, is she a babe and a half!! Sophia also has a solo turn on an amusing little tune called "To Keep My Love Alive" and it's worth checking out. The only notable omission on the whole set is the Dr. Strangelove version of "She Loves You," otherwise it's all here...and all brilliant! Ever hear Peter, as John Lennon, recite Shakespeare's 'Now Is The Winter Of Our Discontent?' Buy this set and you will. Highly RECK-O-MENDED!

Peter Sellers and Sophia Loren Sing (1999-12-03)

The third CD of the Peter Sellers collection has songs sung in collaboration with the sultry siren herself, Sophia Loren. Some of the songs listed do not even have Peter singing (To keep my love alive). These songs are all comedies, and sometimes Sophia breaks out laughing, sounding playful, self conscious and flirtatious all at the same time.

My parents had a vinyl album with those songs on it, and I listened and liked them from about age 12 on. I have not heard most of the songs on the other CDs, but if the quality is similar, these songs would be good to have if you are interested in comedic songs or celebrity singing. Peter Sellers has a good voice, but not a great one.
