awesome (2008-04-12) satch is pretty awesome. i've once heard him described as the guitarist's guitarist, and although i'm not a guitarist i'm not oblivious to the intense level of technicality he brings to what he does. this was more of a mellow album, though it has a lot of intense instrumentals. i most enjoy this album when i'm just relaxing or am on one of those natural highs. basically any state where i can just sit back and let the music roll over me.
His greatest works... (2005-10-05) While being a devout fan of all his works, I will say that this disc is by far my favourite. The video for Big Bad Moon was the first taste of Satch I ever heard/saw, and I was hooked ever since. Pounding out power chords while kicking an amp down the sidewalk...now that's cool! I remember very few past Christmases, but I do remember 1989 when my parents bought me FIABD on cassette. I wore that copy out before getting the CD a couple years later. If stranded on a desert island, I would hope I had my copy of FIABD with me, and if you buy only one of Joe's CDs, make it this one!
Satch's 2nd album is amazing (2004-05-23) At first, Flying in a Blue Dream didn't sound right to me. But as I listened to the tracks more and more, I began to appreciate this incredible album. The song that really shows Joe's incredible song writing is "The Forgotten Part 2". The song conveys so much emotion amd power. Other songs that stand out are "One Big Rush", "Big Bad Moon", and the title track. Although Joe's singing is not great, it still fits the mood of his songs well. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys guitar rock. Joe Satriani is one of a kind.
review your for title a enter Please 2. (2004-03-04) Some of the songs on this album are not that good. They're kind of poorly composed, tired, not very inspired and pretty lame. Not to say that the production stinks. Other songs on this album are pretty good. Some of them's got some raw asskicking power with tasty solos that take you on a rollercoaster ride to the atmospheres with the vitality and raw drive they have. This guy Joe doesn't sing so well, but what the hell, it sounds though as if he's sincere so I guess he could be forgiven for that.. But still some of the songs on this album kind of stinks. They're pretty boring, or mediocre, with a few exeptions, say the intro or solo section on some. Another drummer could probably have made the songs more dynamic and intresting, not to say this drummer sucks, but he's too punky for this album somehow. The title track does actually sound just like that: "Flying in a blue dream". It is really a blue song in terms of color, though it has some shades of grey, dark green and brown. In other words it's a nice song but sounds like it could have been much better if it was All blue. It's because of all these things, these different aspects written above about this album, of which some are good and some suck, that this album only gets 3 stars, not 4 or 5. Or 6 for that matter. How would it be possible to rate an album six stars when only 5 stars exist? Think about it, it's impossible! Seriously, Satriani is awesome, but this album doesn't hold together completely. It has some strong elements I would say. straight from disneyland.
Live the Dream (2004-02-03) You can not only live the dream, but also hear it. Flying in a Blue Dream is simply a great album. What touches you is the emotion. There are many albums that are considered "classics" by hippie looking guys who play Fender strats and wear tie-dye t-shirts, but this album trancends the acid dropping pothead music. It can teach you that music is not only "blues and jazz mixed with rock." Its everything thats under the sun mixed by the mind of a genius. And that Genius is Joe Satriani with Flying in Blue dream. BUY IT!
