Lovely beyond words! (2004-05-16)

This soundtrack really conveys the emotional rollercoaster that was apparent in the movie. I listen to this soundtrack every night before I go to bed. It will relax every muscle in your body and leave your heart gleaming. Beautifully composed.

Lovely music that stands on its own (2004-02-20)

Usually a soundtrack sounds like, well, a soundtrack. This CD, however, doesn't have that failing. Each track is a lovely piece of music that doesn't require you to envision what was happening in the film to enjoy it. I was put off at first by the opera singer in place of Kate Winslet (since K.W. was the singer in the film), but when it comes to listening to this CD over and over, I feel the professional is much more pleasing to the ear than K.W. would have been. This is an excellent CD, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes quiet classical music.

An excellent soundtrack (2003-10-24)

It has been many years indeed since I was moved to purchase a movie soundtrack. However, after viewing the movie at the theater, and again seeing it on the excellent DVD I was once again taken by the music accompanying it.

The music, to my mind and heart, marvelously evokes the english countryside. It has something of the "pastorale" tradition about it.

I too concur with many of the other reviewers here with regards to Kate Winslet's rendition of "Weep you no more sad fountains," it was perfect. I do enjoy the version on the disk but, Ms Winslet's untrained voice perfectly met the words and music.

Beautiful, just beautiful! (2003-05-21)

What a soothing soundtrack. I don't care if all the music was not in the movie, or if Kate Winslet's voice wasn't on the soundtrack (although it would have been very pretty and yes, it should have been on there). I hit the ">>" button and move on! The music is so smooth and relaxing - I love to listen to it in the car during rush hour. It really helps pass the time and gets my mind off where I am by placing me in the beautiful English countryside. The music is fantastic, and has even inspired me to begin taking piano lessons. If you like the movie and tend to like classical music, you absolutely MUST get this cd. It's one of the best soundtracks ever!

This is the best cd!! (2002-06-15)

I have to say that having seen the movie the music maintains its great originality. It has the most gorgeous music and I have to say the Jane Eaglen (I think her last name is spelt) who sings two of the songs expresses the depth and passion of the songs she sings. She is such a beautiful singer! I love it!!
