Best Album of All Time for Mariah - Hands Down (2008-05-04)

This album is increadible! I first got it at age 10 and to this day I come back to it over and over. It is a life time classic.
Four #1 singles from a debut album. Mariah Carey had arrived (2006-07-26)

The music industry was put on notice when this debut album was released in 1990. Vision of Love soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles and this would be the first of 17 #1 singles. Love Takes Time, Someday and I DON'T WANNA CRY all reached the pinnacle in the United States. This Grammy-winning album is amazing. Mariah Carey had arrived and found success with her first album.A great album and worth the listen.
This CD Was 'Sent From Up Above' (2004-07-19)

"Treated Me Kind/Sweet Destiny" are the first words that come out of Mariah's mouth, and the first words that almost every American heard her sing. At the NBAs, on 'Aresino Hall', on the radio, and on "Mariah Carey", 'Vision of Love' is the most classic song of 'Miss MC'. All the singles of this CD went to number one (except for 'There's Got to Be a Way'only a single in Europe, but the best song on the album)and they are "Vision of Love", "Someday", "I Don't Wanna Cry", and "Love Takes Time". Other underrated songs on this CD are 'Vanishing' (I sang it for the school talent show), 'Sent from Up Above', 'You Need Me', 'There's Got to Be a Way', and of course 'Prisoner'. A wonderful all around CD. If you call yourself a Mariah Fan and you don't have this CD, you are a liar.
Amazing Album, Amazing Voice (2004-06-30)

The thing with Mariah Carey is definitely her voice but I think it is so much more than that. On her first album,"Mariah Carey, you can definitely sense that she is still a beginning artist, trying to establish her sound and voice. However, her talent simply cannot be ignored, and that includes her song-writing ability as well as singing talen (she co-wrote the entire album!)

Many of today's artists wish they can acheive her level of skill and talent. Take the first song, "Vision Of Love" for example. From the first line, you can tell this girl isn't a joke. She sings with such strong delivery and control that it still leaves me awestruck. If only I can acheive such skill...

I honestly can listen to the album straight through and not grimace or become bored. My only dislike on the album is the use of her whistle voice. While I think its simply amazing that she can acheive that, I think that on this album she was trying to figure out where exactly to put in the songs and sometimes I think it was out of place.

Nevertheless, I love "Mariah Carey". It is an influential album and I'm constantly singing the songs, just trying to hone my talent and trying to acheive the level of skill that Mariah displays. My favorite song would have to be "Alone In Love". Its a haunting, slow-tempo song about a distant lover. I love how she sings very low at first but then she escalates higher and higher. The song is so full of passion and depth!

I also love :Vision Of Love, Someday, Vanishing, and You Need Me.

I really hope that Ms. Carey continues to astound us with her talent. I know that I will be listening.

This Mariah Carey's CD is old, but still her best. She is the best-selling female performer of the 1990s, Mariah Carey rose to superstardom on the strength of her stunning five-octave voice; an elastic talent who moved easily from glossy ballads to hip-hop-inspired dance-pop, she earned frequent comparison to rivals Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, but did them both one better by composing all of her own material. Born in Long Island, NY, on March 27, 1970, Carey moved to New York City at the age of 17 -- just one day after graduating high school -- to pursue a music career; there she befriended keyboardist Ben Margulies, with whom she began writing songs. Her big break came as a backing vocalist on a studio session with dance-pop singer Brenda K. Starr, who handed Carey's demo tape to Columbia Records head Tommy Mottola at a party. According to legend, Mottola listened to the tape in his limo while driving home that same evening, and was so immediately struck by Carey's talent that he doubled back to the party to track her down.

This extremely impressive debut is replete with smooth-sounding ballads and uplifting dance/R&B cuts. Carey convincingly seizes many opportunities to display her incredible vocal range on such memorable tracks as the popular "Vision of Love" (featured during her television debut on The Arsenio Hall Show, an appearance noted by many as her formal introduction to stardom), the energetic "Someday," and the moody sounds of the hidden treasure "Vanishing." With this collection of songs acting as a springboard for future successes, Carey establishes a strong standard of comparison for other breakthrough artists of this genre.

I don't trust you music fan (who rated just 1 star), but I trust every people who think this music is great.
