The best explanation yet.. (2007-10-04) Finally, a book that really explains in clear and cogent language exactly what the problem is with Islam, and how the Europeans have managed to give away their heritage. An amazingly clear description of how the Muslims have used deception, subtefuge, lies, and their ignorance of truth to enable them to advance their agenda. And the shame of the European culture that is being destroyed because they are not resisting. Politicians again, the scourge of civilization, are helping to destroy their own civilization. We can only hope that America and Canada see what has been happening in Europe, and take steps to reverse their own insane immigration politices and their "multiculturalism" mania. If not, we are all doomed. Follows nicely with "America Alone" and "While Europe Slept". Also "Infidel" gives a great insight into the Muslim thinking about other cultures and races. Worth a read.
Enemy within (2007-01-05) Londonistan examines the state of the UK today from a political and cultural perspective. It chronicles the almost unnoticed surrender of Britain's values as it is faced with a radical fifth column in its midst. Phillips shows how the prevailing mood in the UK today is similar to the 1930s and demonstrates how multiculturalism, relativism, political correctness and the spirit of appeasement are crippling the once proud nation. The author backs up her claims with verifiable facts as she unmasks prominent personalities considered to be mainstream, like Iqbal Sacranie, secretary general of the Muslim Council of the UK. Propaganda from these sources has been granted legitimacy by the establishment. Even the British police suffer from the disease of political correctness while society in general does not want to know that a civilizational struggle is looming. Having encouraged the notion of victim culture, the British state is partly responsible for the moral inversion that takes place after acts of terrorism. The communities from which it emanates immediately claim victim status. Even more disconcerting is the fact that Leftists have rallied to the Islamist cause. The author calls this the red-black alliance, and it is also thoroughly explored, in the US context, in the book Unholy Alliance by David Horowitz. Thus the British media and intellectual elites, in a pathological display of denial, blame the victims Israel and the USA for the very existence of Islamic terrorism. Anti-Semitism in the Muslim world is ignored whilst the Left itself is becoming bolder in embracing this mental virus. The distinction between criticism of Israeli actions and blatant anti-Semitism is becoming blurry, with many a line having been crossed in the leftist media. Propagandistic reporting from the Middle East is increasing and whilst some of it has been exposed by intrepid bloggers, the attitude has become entrenched in media like for example the BBC, The Guardian and The Independent. Phillips proposes some remedies for the perils facing the UK, such as stricter immigration controls, the monitoring of clerics and organizations that propagate violence, and the abandonment of multiculturalism for a return to British values. Time will tell if the UK has the mettle to meet the challenges but no one will be able to say that the country hasn't been warned. The same goes for the West as a whole: Phillips is one of many voices raising the alarm. One can only pray that the warnings will be heeded. The hour is late.
The UK is unwell and very vulnerable (2006-12-19) Since 2001 a number of authors have been warning the West of the twin perils of civilizational suicide and Islamic extremism. These books include America Alone by Mark Steyn, Menace In Europe by Claire Berlinski, While Europe Slept by Bruce Bawer, The Force Of Reason by the late Oriana Fallaci and this one from the epicentre of the Jihad in Europe. Required reading (2006-10-09) I second everything in H. Bashow's review of this book. Like the excellent journalist that she is, Melanie Phillips writes in plain and very readable English. This book should be required reading by every one of our politicians, judges, and all those who engage in politically-correct social engineering. But of course only a few of them will, more's the pity. Western civilization appears destined to collapse under its own utopian aspirations.
Every Canadian should read this book (2006-09-27) Although this book is about the islamicization of London (and other places in Britain), the political and social similarities between Canada and Britain are so striking that this book should also be a stab of warning into Canadian liberal hearts. Brought up within a society that does its best to care for each other, that welcomes immigrants, it is almost impossible for Canadians to accept the threat within our borders. We assume that everyone comes here because they embrace our way of life. That is far from the truth. Many now come because we are a soft society that will support them both ideologically and financially, because we are a society that has no backbone to stand up for its own waning values, one that will look the other way to the spouting of hatred and calls for holy war from streets and mosques, and ignore other illegal behavior rather than risk the feared (and unjust) label, "racist". We are so programmed to human rights that we cannot seem to acknowledge that our society is ripe for rampant abuse of these rights. And this will be our downfall if we do not come up with some system to prevent abuses, and prosecute those that do so. Londonistan is the warning to Canada that Britain didn't get. The question is only whether Canada will listen.
