Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia (2008-10-23)

Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia is a guiding light in the gloomy and often confusing world of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia (CFS/FM). As someone afflicted by the often misunderstood condition of chronic fatigue syndrome I can attest to the urgent need for the vital information found in this book.Written in a straightforward yet caring tone, the authors are uniquely able to covey the latest scientific theories and concepts using clear and jargon-free language. Dr. Alison C. Bested begins the book by knowledgably shedding light on these invisible epidemics. She paints a vivid portrayal of the debilitating symptoms behind the sometimes misleading names, reveals how doctors can make a diagnosis using modern case definitions and delves into the causes of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia, thoroughly explaining the latest scientific theories. Having laid the foundational understanding of CFS/FM the authors follow a logical progression toward treatment of the conditions. Together, Dr. Bested and Dr. Alan C. Logan, ND cover the gamut of treatments and protocols including: energy conservation, sleep hygiene, nutritional support, dietary supplements and herbs, mind-body medicine, complimentary therapies and pharmaceutical treatments. Every treatment is backed by the latest scientific research and more than a decade of Dr. Besteds own clinical experience.A contribution by Russell Howe, an attorney who specializes in medical disability cases, provides expert advice on the legal issues surrounding CFS/FM. Mr. Howe touches on such critical points as: how to find a lawyer, what to look for in a good lawyer, and understanding disability coverage. As in the preceding chapters clear, concise and comprehensible language keep the book reader friendly for all. The balance struck between practical, scientific knowledge and an easy to read format makes Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia an incredibly versatile tool. My family doctor was pleasantly surprised to find such a comprehensive and reputable reference guide. As well, my family and friends have gained a better understanding of what CFS/FM is and are now better able to empathize with my situation. Personally, this book has greatly helped strengthen my ability to cope with this illness both mentally and emotionally. Perhaps most importantly, because of close adherence to the teachings in this book, symptoms that once crippled my life have been dramatically reduced! Simply put, this book is required reading for anyone wanting to learn more about chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. Hope and Help for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia is just that!Talon Crookes

This book helped me to understand how Fibromyalgia affects one of my family members. There was little over-your-head talk, though you can delve as deeply as you wish into the medical explanations. The chapter lay-outs are easy to use as reference and the information pertinent.
