Dave and Becky deliver letters (2003-01-13) This is a typical video in the "There Goes A .... " series, with perhaps more antics than most. Though the carton is titled "There Goes a Mail Truck", the opening credits and Dave Hood's voiceover call this episode "There Goes the Mail", and that is really a more accurate moniker. We do indeed get a look at the LLVs (Long Life Vehicles), but primarily we follow our goofy duo as they track letters carried by plane and truck to a mail distribution center then to local post offices and individual mail carriers. We see lots of sorters, both human and machine. While it is an interesting process to watch, a great deal of the video is spent seeing Dave get wet, lock Becky in a letter box or try to retrieve his mailbag from property guarded by a "vicious" dog (that turns out to be a small poodle). This instalment is a bit on the loopy side, and not as informative as others in the series, but our toddler enjoys it and has a better understanding of what happens to letters and packages after they leave the house.
My son's lifelong favorite (2002-02-28) Grandpa's a letter carrier, so I had to buy this for my son the minute I saw it, even though he was barely one at the time. He loved it even then and has watched it regularly ever since (he's now 3). For some reason, he's always laughed at the part where Dave mentions that postal workers are dedicated professionals. His Grandpa really appreciates that a lot. I'm sure we'll get at least another two years' enjoyment out of this one!
Less than it might be, but a 4 year old loves it! (2001-07-28) This is one of the later Dave Hood efforts, Dave and Becky, not just Dave. Dave Hood is a very good explaner, even when he doesn't appear to completely grasp how things are working he has a knack for putting the right words together so that a child can follow. Unfortunately, the majority of this video is Dave (and Becky) clowning, since they just don't find that much to tell about how mail is sorted, sent and delivered. In contrast to "There Goes a Firetruck", say, there is no really strong interviewee, and no really gripping visuals, nothing that can be just watched, like a 100 foot ladder truck being setup and spraying water. None the less, of all the "There Goes A-" videos at our local library, this is the one our then 3.5 year old wanted, and so I got it for him. And he can recognize a Post Office LLV (long life vehicle) on the street now...
ANOTHER GREAT TAPE IN THE SERIES (2001-03-24) MY 3 YEAR OLD LOVES THIS VIDEO.DAVE AND BECKY MAKE IT FUN FOR CHILDREN TO LEARN HOW THE U.S. POSTAL SYSTEM OPERATES.CHILDREN CAN SEE INSIDE POSTAL AIRPLANES,WAREHOUSES,POSTAL BRANCHES,AND EVEN DELIVER THE MAIL WITH DAVE AND BECKY.AFTER WATCHING THIS TAPE MY SON UNDERSTANDS EXACTLY HOW HIS LETTER GETS TO WHERE IT IS SUPPOSE TO GO.THE TAPE EVEN PROVIDES A HISTORY LESSON ABOUT THE PONY EXPRESS!
Learn where a letter goes after you put it in the mailbox (2000-08-10) Not a "must have", but it's a good learning tool for kids to see what happens to a letter after it goes in your mailbox and is picked up by the mail truck. The two narrators are a little goofy, but toddlers don't mind it. My 3 year old seemed to enjoy it.
