She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. A symbol of love (2008-05-24)

I love this book and I believe that the parts that are considered 'creepy' are actually more symbolic of the love. Instead of it literally being about a an old woman crawling into her sons window think of it about how she feels. That's how much she loves him. She loves him like she did when he was a child. She probably still misses those moments and that's how she'd like to express her love still. Go to Munsch's site to read about where the idea for the book came from. It's touching. And remember that Munsch's work can't always be taken to literally. ;)

A MUST for all mohters (2007-09-24)

This is one of the sweetest books I have ever read - each year as your child gets older it becomes more and more meaningful - I repeat the verse: "I'll love you forever. I'll like you for always. As long as I am living my baby you'll be." to my son all the time - when he has fallen and has hurt himself, when he is tired and I am lying beside him in bed, or just when I want to repeat the beautiful words. He always likes to hear it and hopefully always will! . It is a most treasured book in his library. For my older girl I got two first books from the series "Why Some Cats are Rascals". It's another MUST HAVE

I just love Rober Munsch books (2007-09-11)

I have to say that Robert Munsch is one of my favourite authors when it comes to children's books. This is the story of a mother who loves her son unconditionally through all the stages of life. The illustrations are beautiful and really help bring the story to life. This story always gets me all misty eyed near the end when the son is a grown man and the roles are reversed and he is now taking care of the mother. It's a lovely story for us to show children that no matter what there is always someone who loves them and they are never alone.

A Classic Book (2007-04-17)

Robert Munsch was one of my favorite authors as a kid and this book is one of his best. If you went back in time and asked me as a kid what this book was about I would have said, it is about a mother who loves her son very much. I wouldn't have said the mother was sick or scary. How some people can take the love of a mother and twist it into a perversion is beyond me. When you read to your child you have to be active, not passive. I consider this book a symbol of the parent-child bond. If you read this book to your child and say "that's sick a mother shouldn't be doing that to her son" of course they will interpret it as wrong. But if you say "the mother loves her son forever, just like I'll love you forever" this book will be a positive story for your child. This book does not promote stalking or other unhealthy relations, unless you state that when you read it. Now that I'm an adult, my parents and I have a perfectly healthy relationship. They don't drive to my apartment and sneak into my bedroom to tell me they love me. Like I said before, this book is a symbol of the mother-child bond and it is up to parents to explain this symbolism to their children. As for the mother dying in the end, death in an inevitable part if life. If you are sensitive and tactful to your child you can use this book to help discuss death, and assure them that you won't die for a very long time. Side stepping the issue of death won't make it go away and won't make it any easier when it occurs for your child in real life. This book is a classic and I know it will stay in my family for generations.
