The best true crime book of the year (2006-06-01) After reading Angels of Death this book was clearly better, Langton provides us with a detailed and fascinating account of Walter Stadnick and organized biker crime in Canada. I really enjoyed the style in which the book is written. It is very vivid in its descriptions and reads as well as any fictional thriller.A must read for anyone who enjoys true crime!
A great read! (2006-04-10) I'm a fan of the true crime genre, bikers in particular, and this one was totally worth picking up. Langton has a really great narrative style and effortlessly brings the reader along on this guy's rise to fame. You come away with a real appreciation for Stadnick in many ways. I couldn't put it down all last weekend.
An Amazing Book (2006-04-09) I remember when the Quebec Biker wars broke out. There was plenty of violence, but little information. Bombs went off, guns were fired, and others disappeared. It seemed like Quebec was going to descend into total chaos; and the only details we had were that biker gangs were involved. Then out comes this book 'Fallen Angel'. Somehow this guy managed to get lengthy interviews with people who have not been interviewed before. So many questions are answered. But there's more here than just an amazing amount of detail. Sometimes the book takes you up close, and you see how the events of the time were influenced by the strategies and personalities of a few people. Sometimes the book takes you far above the battle, so you can see the big picture. Also, the quality of the writing is high. When you're reading a book about bikers or gang warfare, it helps to have a writer who knows how to tell a story with dark humour. And this book has plenty of that.
not well written (2006-03-25) As a researcher I need to find accurate information on the subjects I work with, this book is not a good example.Clearly the writer looked to others for his information and did no follow-up on what he found. The books by Yves Lavigne,Sonny Barger and Daniel r.Wolf are far better examples.I recommend saving your money for those authors and not this book.
Excellent book! (2006-03-23) This was an excellent account of the problems with drugs, organized crime and Motorcycle "clubs". I think Jerry did a great job laying out the groundwork for this riveting account a punk with a severe case of little-man syndrome. You can ignore the first two bad reviews as they are written by Stadnicks friends and families. This is a MUST read for anyone with an interest in the workings of organized crime, motorcycle gangs or local Ontario and Quebec history. Excellent job Jerry, I look forward to the next book!
