Fantastic! (2008-07-09)

I thought it was great read, combining great zombie entertainment with sociology, politics, morals, and contemporary events. Really gets you thinking about how our society functions.

For starters, I'm not a fan of zombie movies. However, my dad had left this book lying around one day and started to read it. It was one of those few books that grabbed my full attention from start to end. I thought it was a very good read. I do read a lot and finish most books, but this was one of those few books that I've read cover-to-cover in a while without getting bored during the process. It is told as a report on the Zombie Wars, written in first-person accounts of the war that took place in a not so distant future. I enjoyed how the author unfolded the story, with different patches coming together and eventually creating this huge world.
A mix of good and bad (2007-12-20)

You probably already know that this book is a series of interviews with those who experienced a zombie outbreak/war. It's a very interesting concept, as it basically results in a series of related short stories. However, the main issue I had with this book is that the quality of short stories really varies. Some of them are quite enjoyable...I liked the Battle of Yonkers, for instance, and the story set in South Africa. However, some are just beyond ridiculous...in one chapter, a blind monk and a guy so addicted to the internet that he doesn't even notice his parents are missing somehow team up to fight off zombies? Obviously I'm not looking for realism when it comes to a book about zombies, but that particular section was so jarring. I felt it disrupted the narrative and could have just been left out. This book is a page turner, and has some interesting concepts. It's worth reading, and for 13 bucks you could do a lot worse. Mildly recommended.
I was not impressed at all... (2007-11-05)

Very short pointless stories about "events". I personnaly liked his previous book much better. This was a bit of a deception.
An alternate history...just around the corner (2007-09-10)

One of my most enjoyable reads in 2007. I listened to the audio version, which is also one of the best audiobooks I've ever experienced - the all star voice cast includes Mark Hamill and Alan Alda; I kept thinking..."I know this voice!". A documentary of the alt-history Zombie War, told by the survivors. Not classic literature, but thoroughly engrossing nonetheless, ontologically complete and sometimes just plain fun for boys who like guns.
